Purpose : This study evaluated the advantage of CT-based image guided brachytherapy (IGBT) compared with point-based brachytherapy. Materials and Methods : Point and CT-based brachytherapy planning were performed simultaneously on the same patient with cervix cancer. In CT-based planning, 2 dimensional target was delineated in every CT slice to construct 3 dimensional gross tumor volume (GTV), clinical target volume (CTV) and organs at risk volume (OARV). Results : Point-based brachytherapy could not provide 3 dimensional dose coverage of tumor and normal tissue because only reference point was used for optimization. On the other hand, CT-based planning could offer 3 dimensional dose distribution and quantifiable parameters through dose-volume histogram (DVH), which can be used to set up the treatment guideline. Conclusion : CT-based image guided brachytherapy has the benefit of DVH optimization process for GTV, CTV, OARV.
